Trophic food web in a small African tropical reservoir

Abstract

Feeding of fish species andnycthemeral cycle of phytoplankton andchlorophyll a (chla) of Adzopé reservoir haveconducted between 06:00 and 03:00 h in intervals of 3 hours at the deepest point (S)from May 2008 to February 2009. To analyze phytoplankton community, species richness and total density(TD) were used, whereas,chla were obtained with Lorenzen method (Lorenzen, 1967). Feeding based bothTD and chla, were calculated from MAXIMS software to determine evacuation and ingestion rates (E.R. and I.R.), daily ration(D.R.) and infinite stomach content (I.S.C.)of fish active species.Similar variation of feeding and stomach content weight based bothTD and chla were observed. Generally, at all seasons, peaks of feeding resulting bothTD and chla were obtained during the day at 9h.Daily ration based on chla were highest than those based on TD. D.R. observed between 15h and 17h, highest I.R. resulting of chla at all seasons indicated higherfood contribution of Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) which had represented 60% of fisheries.Using MAXIMSsoftware on total density and chla contributed to understanding of food web from Adzopé reservoir.

Systematic Assessment of Sustainability Strategies in Highway Projects through Parametric Analysis

Abstract

The use of recycled materials in highways has been the focus of many highway agencies around the world. In a ―zero waste‖ environment of a circular economy, objective of the agencies and highway industry is to recycle as much as possible of the existing materials since they have a residual value. Furthermore the emphasis on Sustainability over recent years and the potential development of ―green highways‖ identifies the need to develop systematic sustainability analysis methods that can quantify the contribution of each alternative strategy in reducing the use of natural materials, energy and water consumption, as well as greenhouse emissions. It was the objective of this study to propose a methodology for quantitative assessment of alternative strategies in terms of economic and environmental sustainability. To demonstrate the value of the approach a parametric study was developed considering the use of alterative recycled materials and variable recycling rates. The suggested approach provides the means of comparing the alternativestrategies and identifying which factors (i.e., materials processing, transportation, construction) contribute the most in sustainability assessment. The potential use of a sustainability rating systems is also explored in the search for the best (i.e., optimum) sustainable strategy. The methodology proposed here is transferable elsewhere where similar materials and construction technique are used..

A Novel Distance Minimizer Method of Ranking for Fuzzy Number: A Case Study

Abstract

This paper presents a new ranking method for fuzzy numbers (FN) by using distance minimizer between any two fuzzy numbers with the help of membership functions. Till now there are several ranking methods have been proposed but every method has some short coming to overcome these types of drawback. Here, we propose a new ranking method for fuzzy numbers which satisfy the general axioms of ranking function and applicable for normal as well as generalized fuzzy numbers. The developed method has been illustrated by examples and compared with some existing ranking methods to show its suitability.

Statistical Moment Networking of SBT Risk Assessments

Abstract

The current fast pace technological advancing workplace requires safety measures that are in keeping with emerging job practices. In this regard preventive approaches to hazardous situations call upon precise measurements and analysis of data for development of predictive models of safety. One such approach that is gaining ground worldwide is in the use of sensor based technology (SBT) which calls upon the creativity of specialists in the field of engineering and statistics to construct workplace safety networks for worker protection. The SBT approach for safety takes into account the capturing, recording and logging of data electronically using electronic sensors placed in remote locations that would otherwise be difficult to access. These data are then analysed by humans who perform statistical analyses to complete the risk assessment........

Dielectric Dependent Absorption Characteristics In Cnfet Infrared Phototransistor

Abstract

in future infrared photodetectors, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered as potential candidates due to their band gap, high absorption coefficient (104 - 105 cm−1), high charge carrier mobility and ease of processability. The SWCNT based Field Effect Transistors (CNFETs) are being seriously reviewed for applications in optoelectronics. In the proposed work optically controlled back gated CNFET is modeled in Sentaurus TCAD. Transfer characteristics of the device are analyzed under dark and illuminated conditions at varying chirality for SWCNTs. Small deviation in SWCNT chirality shows significant change in channel current. Work is further continued with an analysis for high-κ (25) Hafnium Dioxide (HfO2) thin film (~10 nm) as gate dielectric.........
