Abstract

A suspension system is an important part of a two wheeler since it reduces the effects of travelling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality, and increase in comfort due to substantially reduced amplitude of disturbances. Recently, vibration isolation and reduction techniques have become an integral part of machine design/vehicle design and hence the need for accurate measurement and analysis of mechanical vibration has grown. Multi-Response Optimization of WEDM Process Parameters of Monel 400 using Integrated RSM and GA

Abstract

Non-traditional machining processes such as Wire Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM) are increasingly been employed to machine difficult-to-machine materials. Monel 400 an alloy of Nickel and Copper is taken in this study and it is cut through Wire Electric Discharge Machining process. It is utilized mainly in corrosion resistant applications. Further, the process parameters are optimized to get the desired machining conditions which can improve the quality of machining. Design of Experiments is done through Central Composite Design (CCD). Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is an evolutionary algorithm are the techniques employed for the optimization of parameters in WEDM......

Anatomy Of The Traffic Accidents On The Road

Abstract

The location of traffic accidents on arterial roads of Makassar-Sidrap precisely at KM 173 to KM 174 from Makassar. This research aims to analyze the physical characteristics of roads, traffic sign and road markings, and (3) anatomy of a traffic accident on a road km 173 to km 174 from Makassar, using qualitative and quantitative description. The physical is complying with request IHCM 1997, except for the width of traffic lanes still requires special to handle. The degree of the saturation 0.39, free flow speed average was 67.8 km/hour with the level of service B. Traffic sign and road markings have not been adequate, there are no warning signs that should be installed an accident-prone area that could potentially be the cause of traffic accidents.....

Abstract

Development of shopping centers have an impact on the increase in traffic volume resulting from the pull and vehicle movement generation. This research aimed to analyze the condition of the road network services of Urip Sumohardjo in Makassar and projection of the traffic volume to the presence of Nipah Mall. Data obtained by recording and counting directly at the research locus and the document data obtained from relevant agencies. Analysis of road service processed using Microsoft Excel based Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (IHCM) 1997. The results showed the existing level of service at the level of the current "C" is stable, the speed can be controlled by traffic with the degree of saturation of 0.74 is the threshold performance good road...........

Drag Optimization of Bluff Bodies using CFD for Aerodynamic Applications

Abstract

This paper deals with the optimization of bluff bodies and analysis of fluid flow behaviour around bodies using CFD. Three test cases of bluff bodies; mainly two-dimensional rectangular body, radial rectangular shape and bullet shaped body were considered in this paper. Their shapes were optimised to achieve aerodynamic body shape using drag coefficient as main criteria. The other aerodynamic characteristics like formation of different eddy loops due to eddy viscosity, lift force coefficient and pressure force with Mach number were also investigated. It is concluded that aerodynamically; bullet shaped body is best among all the cases.

Abstract

The accurate estimation of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) plays a pivotal role in water resources planning and management studies. The present study was attempted to estimate the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) using three temperature based methods namely, Blaney-Criddle method, Thornthwaite method and Hargreaves-Samani model and three radiation based methods namely, Turc method, Priestly-Taylor model, and FAO - 24 Radiation Model for Mohanpur area, Nadia district, West Bengal. ET estimates of the above mentioned methods were then compared with FAO Penman - Monteith (FAO-56 PM) method, which was considered as the standard method of ETo estimation, to check the capabilities of different models to predict ETo for the study area.............

Modeling the Frictional Effect on the Rip Current on a Linear Depth Profile

Abstract

We develop an analytical theory for the interaction between waves and currents induced by breaking waves on a depth profiles. Here we examine the effect of friction on the rip currents and so are not particularly concerned with frictionally determined rip currents. The near shore is characterized by the presence of breaking waves, and so we develop equations to be used outside the surf zone, based on small-amplitude wave theory, and another set of equations to be used inside the surf zone, based on an empirical representation of breaking waves. Suitable matching conditions are applied at the boundary between the offshore shoaling zone and the near shore surf zone. Both sets of equation are obtained by averaging the basic equations over the wave phase. Thus the qualitative solution constructed is a free vortex defined in both shoaling and surf zone where in the surf zone the free vortex is perturbed by a long shore component.

Abstract

The industry today needs manufacturing operations of high production rate and economical machining to cope up with the changing trends and competition in the field. Optimization of turning operation is studied in this work and a Genetic Algorithm technique is developed and coded, so that further development can be done according to the area of implementation. The main aim of this work is the economical machining, ie., optimum tool life with maximum material removal rate, so the machining time can be reduced. For that, a high performance Genetic algorithm is aimed to develop to suit the various optimization problems in the Turning process and a comparative study will be done with Genetic algorithm toolbox in the Matlab software. Abstract

This paper presents the Fiber-reinforced polymer composites have played a dominant role for a long time in a variety of applications for their high specific strength and modulus. The fiber which serves as a reinforcement in reinforced polymer is in the form of natural fibers. In this connection, an investigation has been carried out to make use of coconut fiber which is available abundantly in India. Natural fibers are not only strong and lightweight but also relatively very cheap. The present work describes the development and characterization of a new set of research was carried out by reinforcing the matrix (Epoxy resin) with natural material (Coconut fiber). The newly developed composites are characterized with respect to their mechanical characteristics. The natural fibers were exposure to chemical treatment (NaOH) before manufacturing of laminates. Samples of coconut-Epoxy laminate were manufactured using compression moulding method were the stacking of fibers takes place. Abstract

Nanofluids are a new class of solid- liquid composite materials consisting of solid nanoparticles, with sizes typically on the order of 1–100 nm, suspended in a heat transfer liquid. In recent years nanofluids have attracted great interest owing to their greatly enhanced thermal properties. The experimental work has been done at different temperature range (30 to 80°C) with varying different volume concentration (0.1%,0.2%,0.5%), 20nm size of Al2O3 nanoparticle in base fluid water to study the behavior of thermos physical properties of nanofluid and compare with the base fluid.

Comparision of Electrode Manipulation between Different Welding Processes like Straight, Circular & Zigzag

Abstract

Over the years welding emerged as main metal joining technique. Out of this Arc welding is most commonly used welding technique due to small equipment, cheap process and portable machining equipment. Quality of weld depend upon various parameters like, value of current, type of base material, type of electrode, human skills and electrode manipulation. Present work demonstratesthe effect of electrode manipulation over quality of weld. Three type ofelectrode manipulation were consider straight, circular and zigzag. To evaluate the quality of weld hardness and micro structure of the weld was considered. It was observed that circular manipulation produced best quality weld out of these three types of electrode manipulation.
